Pregnancy Tips to Keep Yourself in Good Health

Now you are having a baby you must take extra care of yourself during the months that lie ahead.

Lots of women bloom during pregnancy – their hair grows quickly and develops a glossy shine, their skin develops a healthy glow, and their breasts swell and develop a sexy cleavage. These changes are due to the pregnancy hormone progesterone and to more oxygen circulating around your body. Progesterone can also have a calming effect and help reduce anxiety, since the serene feeling of contentment some pregnant women experience.

Unfortunately, not all women experience this 'bloom' when they are having a baby and find their hair falls out and becomes greasy, and their skin breaks out in spots.

However, there are things you can do to keep yourself in good health.

Dental care is free on the NHS during pregnancy and for one year after the birth, so book an appointment now. Bleeding gums are very common in pregnancy due to an increased blood flow, so you've got to take special care to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Gum disease has been linked to premature labor and, if left untreated, can lead to periodontal disease and tooth loss.

Hair growth speeds up so your hair may be thicker and glossier when you are having a baby. Faster hair growth may also mean more hairs falling out because new hair is replacing them. Some women get greasy hair when they are having a baby and this is due to progesterone stimulating more sebum (oil) on the scalp – wash your hair frequently using mild shampoo.

Progesterone causes glands in the skin to produce more oil so you may find you break out in spots. Equally, your skin can become dry and itchy. Use a skin care range appropriate for your type of skin and moisturize daily. Avoid perfumed shower gels and bubble bath as these can dry your skin.

Stretch marks

These occur if the elasticity of the skin becomes over-stretched and appear as reddish lines, often on the breasts, stomach and thighs. It helps not to put on too much weight to wear a supportive bra and to moisturize regularly. After the birth, the lines will gradually begin to fade and become less noticeable.

If you find your skin is more sensitive to the sun than normal, use a moisturizer that contains UVA protection. Some women develop a condition called chloasma, a butterfly-shaped mask of darker skin across the face. This can be reflected with make-up and will disappear after the birth.

Legs and feet

Tired, aching legs and feet are common when you are having a baby . Try to spend some time with your feet up every evening. Fluid retention sometimes causes your feet to get bigger so you may need to buy bigger shoes.

What Dentists Wish Parents Knew Before Bringing Their Kids to the Dentist!

I have been a dentist for over twenty years, treating adults and children of all ages. As a mom, I love taking care of our pediatric patients! When kids have difficulties during a dental visit, oftentimes it is because of something the parents have inadvertently done (or not done). This is so unfortunated, especially since it is so avoidable. Please read my five suggestions on how to prepare your child to have a good dental visit!

Rule # 1: Ask the dental office about how to best prepare your child for what to expect at the dental visit. Kids are very perceptive and will sense your unhealthy vibes if you are fearful, no matter how much you try to hide it. The dental office will have suggestions and maybe even some age appropriate reading material you can use.

Rule # 2: Schedule the visit for a time when your child is not tired. A healthy snack before the appointment is also a good idea. Kids who are hungry and tired will be less cooperative. As a practicing dentist, and also a mom, I have a fridge with healthy drinks and snacks in my waiting room for just such a need!

Rule # 3: If you tend to be squeamish, do not come back into the treatment area. I will come out to the reception area and give periodic updates to parents who choose to remain there. It is no shame to admit that you can not handle watching a medical or dental procedure. Believe it or not, I have had to quickly pull a child out of the dental chair to get his dad to lie down before he passed out!

Rule # 4: Do not talk about bad dental experiences in front of your child! Modern dentistry is a lot different than when you were a kid. Do not pass your fears onto the next generation!

Rule # 5: Never use "the dentist" as a threat. You may find this hard to believe, but I've had parents threaten them children to cooperate or else they would make me give a shot! I've had parents tell children if they do not brush their teeth, that I was going to hurt them. How am I to establish a rapport with your child if he hears comments like that from you?

Lastly, I would tell you to take the time to talk to your own dentist if you have been procrastinating out of fear. Maybe if you see your child have a positive dental experience, it might just provide the push you need to start taking care of your own mouth!

How To Get an STD Test

If you are at all worried about your sexual health it is imperative that you get yourself checked out as soon as possible. If you are experiencing symptoms that worry you, or if you have put yourself into an “at risk” situation by having unprotected sex, then you need to take a deep breath and march yourself off to get the relevant STD tests.

The easiest way for most people to do this is by going to your local GP and getting a referral to the sexual health clinic at your local hospital. However, some people prefer the relative anonymity of attending a walk in clinic without first visiting your personal GP.

A walk in GUM clinic will have a standard set of tests that they recommend. These will generally include Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, HIV and Syphilis. They will then recommend additional tests according to your needs and risks that you have exposed yourself to.

Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and Syphilis are curable diseases treated by courses of specific antibiotics. They are also all best treated early before they can serious health problems. Even exposure to HIV can be treated by post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) which may prevent you becoming HIV positive if you begin treatment within 72 hours of a high risk exposure.

Treatment in the UK can be either on the NHS or at a private clinic. Some tests such as HIV can be undertaken by home screening. HIV home screening was introduced in the UK in 2006 – whereby you send a saliva sample off to a lab to be analysed. Counselling is available if the initial result are not all clear.

Don’t wait and cross your fingers. Decide which option suits you best, whether it be GP, walk in clinic or private clinic, and get yourself tested.

4 Great Recipes to Create a Cherry Desert Using a Dutch Oven

Deserts using a Dutch Oven is a great way to cook. This article will show you 4 easy dutch oven cherry deserts. Each of these recipes use simple to find, easy to pack ingredients.

The first Dutch Oven Cherry Desert requires:

1 can crushed pineapple

1 can cherry pie filling (she said you can use others)

1 box yellow cake mix (NOT the pudding style)

1 1/2 cups melted butter (I’m sure you could use less if wanted)

Start by pouring your crushed pineapple including the juice into the Dutch Oven (D.O.).

Now add the pie filling. Next pour DRY mix on top of the fruit and filling. Next melt 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) of butter. Pour over the dry cake mixture. Next bake at 350 degrees (about 10 coals on botton and 12-15 coals on top), and it will usually take about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Take out when done and let cool before serving.

Here is a nice Cherry Desert from our European friends. Black Forest Cake in a Dutch Oven

To start with you will need to line a 12″ D.O. with heavy duty aluminum foil, this will reduce the clean up required.

Next using a box of Devil’s Food Cake, prepare the mix as per the instructions on the back of the box. Pour the prepared mix into your lined D.O..

Gently spoon the cherry pie filling ON TOP of the cake mixture. (DO NOT stir the pie filling into the cake mix.) Bake as you would a Cobbler. It should be done in about 30-35 minutes. Test with a toothpick or metal skewer. If the it is clean the cake is done; if the it is gooey with cake mix, let it bake longer.

When done, remove it from the coals and let it cool a few minutes. Server while warm with whipped cream or Cool Whip (if desired).

This desert is a Cobbler.

Open 2 cans of Cherry pie filling, put in a foil lined Dutch Oven, pour on top a white, yellow or spice cake mixture dry. Put on top of cake batter half a cup butter or margarine, cut into pieces & scatter around the dry cake mix. 10 coals on bottom of DO & 15 on top. Cook for about 45 minutes.

The last Dutch Oven Cherry Desert, before I have to raid the refrigerator, is for those on a diet. This is a reduced calorie favorite.

Start with a standard box of cake mix. Dutch Chocolate works very well. Do NOT mix according to the directions on the box. Mix in one can of reduced calorie cherry pie filling and a can of diet lemon-lime soda. Bake at 350 per the directions on the cake box. About 30-45 mins.

I hope you enjoy these recipes. They can be modified to work with almost any fruit mix. Apples and Peaches both are very good.

How to Get Your Girl So Wet That She Will Scream Your Name Uncontrollably (And Beg for More!)

Is your girl satisfied with your performance in bed? Are you looking for more tips to become even better in bed? If yes, you are a lucky boy today. Today, let me share with you some easy tips to get your girl so wet in bed that she will beg you for more.

To get a girl wet, you MUST NOT start intercourse before she is wet. I know this sound a little confusing – to put it simply, a girl when fully aroused, will be wet before intercourse. Many men make the mistake of starting intercourse before a woman is wet. If you do this, you are not going to give her a wet and satisfying orgasm.

The reason why nature makes a girl wet before intercourse is because the fluid makes intercourse smooth and enjoyable for the lady. If you penetrate her when she is dry, you are causing more pain then pleasure!
Now, let us move on to the reliable methods to make a girl wet and orgasm:

1. Create sexual anticipation. Sexual anticipation is your best ally to give your lady a wet orgasm. Women are very different from men – as men, we can rush straight to sex after jumping into bed. On the other hand, women take more time to get aroused and get ready for sex. For most women, sex starts well before getting into the bedroom. To increase your chance of getting her aroused, create sexual anticipation by sending her naughty text messages to start her thinking of you during the day. During dinner, engage in some discreet touching, which can be a real turn on for the both of you.

2. Tease her during foreplay. Foreplay is an important process of a good lovemaking. You MUST engage in extended foreplay if you want to give your girl a wet orgasm. Undress her slowly and move your hands all over her body as if it is your first time seeing her naked. Make circles around her breasts with your finger or tongue before sucking her nipples. Kiss and caress all her erogenous zones such as spine, neck, breasts, inner thighs, collar bones, earlobes, etc.

3. Spend more time on the neck. A woman's neck is extremely sensitive to lick and kisses. Almost all women love their men to kiss their neck as it is a real turn on. Kiss her neck and slowly move north to tackle her ears. Most women can not resist this.

4. Go down on her. Cunnilingus or oral sex for women is one of the best ways to give a girl an orgasm even before intercourse. This is because a woman's clitoris is the most sensitive part of her body as it contains more than 8,000 sensitive nerve endings. Lick her clitoris and when she is about to climax, flick your tongue quickly to see her gush into a mind-blowing orgasm.

5. Learn how to finger her. Use your finger to locate the g-spot and apply pressure to it. If you realize the g-spot correctly, you will drive your lady totally wild.

6. Be masculine and manly. Women love their men to take control during lovemaking. Push your lady against the wall and penetrate her from the back. Take control by being strong and she will surrender and succumb to orgasm easier.

However, knowing these tips may not be enough – you must give her a last long enough during intercourse in order to fully satisfy her in bed. To be able to satisfy her during intercourse, you must last at least 5 to 10 minutes. Are you thinking long enough? If not, check out the bonus tip below to find out more.

Things To Consider In Your Search For Healthy Skin

The Foundation Of Healthy Skin

Fats have a central role to play in your health, being the second largest compound in the body after water. Unfortunately many people have been misled into believing that fat should be avoided. The right fats are crucial to our overall health, and when the right fats are missing from our diet, health will be compromised. The reason for this is that the right fats are required in every single cell membrane, so if they are missing, every single cell in your body will be unable to do its job effectively.

Skin cells are special because you can see them

Obviously skin cells are special because unlike the cells inside our body we can see them very clearly. Common symptoms of skin lacking the right fats are: dry, flaky skin, prematurely aging skin like wrinkles, skin disorders like rashes or eczema, thin skin and skin that bruises easily.

Having healthy cell membranes is therefore the foundation of all health, including skin health. This is why it is generally possible to see how healthy someone is by looking at their skin.

Replacing the bad fats in the membranes of your skin cells with the right fats will result in significant improvements in the quality of your skin, simply because your skin cells can function more effectively, by replacing themselves and retaining moisture more efficiently.

In summary – the right fats in the membrane of your skin are the foundation to healthy and good looking skin.

Other aspects to skin health

Although the right fats form the foundation of healthy skin, there are some other aspects to skin health that you may have to consider if your skin is not 100% healthy yet.

  • Water is the number one compound in the human body – Water has a number of very important functions to perform in your body and brain, and can transform the way your skin looks, because of these functions. Water flushes wastes and toxins out of your cells, excreting them through your kidneys, bowels, and skin. Water has the ability to carry nutrients, such as glucose and amino acids, as well as other nutrients, to every cell in your body – and brain. So, dehydration will affect your skin and the nutrients it receives from your blood stream, making your skin look dry, pasty and unhealthy. Drinking fruit juices and soft/soda drinks doesn’t supply water to the body, although they are liquids, because the body has to break them down first, due to their sugar and salt content. So the body treats them like food initially, using digestive juices to break them down. If there is a little water left over, it is not sufficient to provide adequate water to the body. Only real, pure water can do that. Drink 300ml’s for every 10kg’s of body weight.

  • Sometimes a specific food can be your skins enemy – Food allergies or intolerances are often noted on the skin, simply because the skin is second largest organ in the human body. If you are eating a specific food that your body battles to digest, and absorb, then understandably your skin may reflect that problem. By removing a suspect food from your diet for a period of 2 weeks – 3 months, you will be able to note any changes in your behaviour and physical health. The most common foods that provoke an allergic response are as follows, with food additives known to cause skin reactions at the end of the list:
    • Wheat (and other gluten grains, such as oats, rye and barley)
    • milk or dairy products
    • chocolate
    • corn
    • eggs
    • fish (including shellfish)
    • berries
    • legumes (soya, green peas, lima beans, peanuts)
    • nuts
    • pork
    • peaches.
    • MSG (E621/621)
    • Sulphites/metasulphites/metabisulphites (E221/221 and E223/223)
    • Tartrazine(E102/102) and BHA (E320/320).

Undergo this elimination diet under the guidance of an expert in food allergies, and sensitivities, who will be able to help you eliminate all the possibly offending foods, and guide you in choosing suitable alternatives.

  • Manufacturers make food that won’t go off – but your skin can

Processed foods and sugar can play havoc with your skin. We weren’t designed to consume nutrient deficient food, so our bodies don’t cope well with it, and unfortunately, one of the first places to see the damage of such a sugar-laden diet, is on your skin. Sugar and refined carbohydrates cause blood sugar imbalances and poor skin quality. This is because collagen, the specialized protein that skin is made up of, is especially sensitive to refined sugar. Sugar causes skin to look lacklustre, and also causes breakouts. Tiny compounds called Advanced Glycation End products are formed through the action of sugar on collagen, which cause wrinkles.

  • Skin loves fresh, colourful foods

Fresh foods, such as green and coloured vegetables all provide potent nutrients, as well as enzymes that help food digest properly. Fresh produce, especially capsicums, pumpkin, tomatoes and carrots also contain Vitamin A, which apart from being a potent antioxidant, is also responsible for cell turnover and skin brightness. Cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are especially useful, as are sulphur rich vegetables, such as leeks, garlic inions and shallots. Leafy green vegetables also provide a natural form of iron, which is very helpful in getting oxygen to your cells, to keep them well energized. Berries and citrus fruits are especially good for skin because they are packed with vitamin C, which helps restore a glow to skin and slow ageing. Special compounds called anthocyanins protect collagen, the protein in skin, stopping free radicals from wreaking havoc with this delicate protein.

  • Tiny compounds that help your food work properly

Digestive enzymes are very important little compounds, because they help your body to function optimally, by helping you digest your food, by breaking food down into smaller parts. This enables your body to obtain nourishment. They also help different biological reactions to take place in your body, which are essential for your health and wellbeing, so they can be helpful to your skin.

  • A healthy gut leads to healthy skin

Your skin needs the right nutrients like vitamins, minerals, phyto-nutrients and other important compounds found in your diet to stay healthy. But these can only be absorbed if your digestive system works well. Probiotics found in yoghurt (choose unsweetened, organic varieties to maximise benefit) or probiotic supplement will help your digestive system to work optimally and provide your skin with all the nutrients that your diet supplies.

  • The sun can be your skins friend

You do need a certain amount of sun exposure, as the sun, acts on your skin to produce Vitamin D, which has a number of important functions to perform in your body. However you can get this sun exposure at safe times during the day.

  • Skin irritants in your surroundings

Environmental irritants, such as dust mites, chemicals in our homes, washing powder residue on clothes, shampoos, as well as certain fabrics can all irritate sensitive skin. When the skin is inflamed and sensitive due to essential fat deficiency and lack of nutrients, it is very susceptible to environmental irritants. And it is wise to avoid any known irritant while the skin is healing. However, it is never a good idea to expose yourself to chemicals – whether your skin is healthy or not. Unfortunately, many people concentrate on avoiding environmental irritants, without looking to the real cause of the skins distress.

  • Important skin nutrients that you may be missing out on

Zinc is a very important mineral for maintaining good quality skin, and is unfortunately one of the minerals that most soil is deficient in. This means that most fresh produce is deficient in this important nutrient. Zinc supplementation may be necessary to get glowing skin if you are very deficient in this mineral.

Selenium is another important mineral for good skin, and a deficiency may be due to refined food consumption, and lack of essential fats. Mushrooms, cabbage, courgettes, avocados, lentils, seaweed and Brazil nuts contain this important mineral.

Vitamin A and E, are both very important for skin health, and if your diet doesn’t include carrots, apricots, melon, red asparagus, tangerines, peppers, broccoli, squash, mango, sweet potatoes, watercress, papayas, pumpkin, tomatoes, parsley and green leafy vegetables, as well as fresh seeds, nuts, cold pressed vegetable oils, beans and peas, you will be deficient in these important vitamins. They are also potent anti-oxidants, so they keep your skin young, as well as healthy.

Vitamin C is also very important to attain and maintain healthy skin and fresh produce is often missing this important vitamin, due to long storage times and the distance that some fresh produce has to travel to get to the consumer. You will find good quantities in citrus fruits, melons, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, broccoli, strawberries, watercress, cabbage, peas and kiwi fruit.

Great skin starts on the inside

If you want great health – and great skin – you have to eat the best food you can find, and supplement with a good green drink and a multivitamin, which is a very good insurance against nutrient deficient produce.

Working your way through the list above may enable you to pinpoint another area of your lifestyle that could be contributing to your skin condition. The essential fats are the foundation of great skin, and the other aspects build on the right fats. Remember your skin’s health is a reflection of your health, so working on the cause of your skins distress is a much smarter option that applying a bandage, which creams and other medication are.
