Do you like candy as much as I do? Well, did you know that you can prepare delicious candy from the comfort of your home? Pecan pralines, raspberry divinity, chocolate turtles and coconut bon bons are some simple yet delicious candy recipes you can prepare at home.

Below are the recipes so you can try them out and you will see what i mean:

1. Pecan Pralines

Ingredients:

– 1 cup of brown sugar
– 1 cup of sugar
– 1 cup of milk
– 1 tablespoon of maple syrup
– 1 tablespoon of butter
– 1/8 teaspoon of salt
– 1 cup of chopped pecans

Directions:

– Combine sugars and milk.
– Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until sugars are dissolved and mixture boils.
– Cook until thermometer registers 224.
– Add butter and pecans.
– Cook until a small amount of mixture forms a soft ball when dropped in cold water.
– Cool quickly to lukewarm.
– Stir in maple syrup and heat until thick.
– Drop on a buttered surface and flatten out into patties.

2. Raspberry Divinity

Ingredients:

– 3 cups of sugar
– 1 – 3 oz. Package of raspberry gelatin
– 1/2 cup of flaked coconut
– 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
– 3/4 cup of light corn syrup
– 1 cup of chopped pecans
– 3/4 cu of water

Directions:

– Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
– Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
– Reduce heat and cook to hard ball stage.
– Combine beaten egg whites and gelatin – beat until mixture forms stiff peaks.
– Pour hot syrup slowly into egg whites, beating until candy loses gloss and holds shape.
– Fold in coconut and nuts (optional).
– Pour into greased 9 inch square pan.
– Top with rows of chopped nuts and coconut.

3. Chocolate Turtles

Ingredients:

For The Turtles

– 2 squares of chocolate
– 1/2 cup of margarine
– 2 eggs
– 3/4 cup of sugar
– 1 cup of flour
– 1 teaspoon of vanilla

For The Icing:

– 1/2 square of chocolate
– 1/2 cup of brown sugar
– 1/4 cup of water
– 2 1/2 tablespoons of butter
– Powdered sugar

Directions:

– Melt 2 squares of chocolate and 1/2 cup of margarine.
– Beat 2 eggs. Add sugar. Fold chocolate mixture into egg mixture.
– Fold in 1 cup flour and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
– Drop by teaspoon on hot waffle iron (low).
– Bake 50 seconds.
– Cool and frost.
– ICING: Boil chocolate, brown sugar, water, and butter 3 minutes.
– Take off heat.
– Add powdered sugar until thick.
– Put on turtles.
– Sprinkle with ground nuts.

4. Coconut Bon Bons

Ingredients:

– 3/4 cup of instant potatoes (2 servings cooked, but not seasoned)
– 4 cups of flaked coconut
– 1 – 16 oz. package of powdered sugar
– 1 teaspoon of almond extract

Directions:

– Stir together the instant potatoes, coconut, powdered sugar, and the almond extract, mixing thoroughly.
– Refrigerate the mixture for 1 to 2 hours.
– Melt a 12 ounce bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1/3 of a bar of paraffin was in a double boiler.
– Shape the coconut mixture into small balls and dip in the melted chocolate.
– Lay on waxed paper until cool.

Now you are having a baby you must take extra care of yourself during the months that lie ahead.

Lots of women bloom during pregnancy – their hair grows quickly and develops a glossy shine, their skin develops a healthy glow, and their breasts swell and develop a sexy cleavage. These changes are due to the pregnancy hormone progesterone and to more oxygen circulating around your body. Teeth

Dental care is free on the NHS during pregnancy and for one year after the birth, so book an appointment now. Bleeding gums are very common in pregnancy due to an increased blood flow, so you've got to take special care to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Gum disease has been linked to premature labor and, if left untreated, can lead to periodontal disease and tooth loss.

Hair

Hair growth speeds up so your hair may be thicker and glossier when you are having a baby. Faster hair growth may also mean more hairs falling out because new hair is replacing them. Some women get greasy hair when they are having a baby and this is due to progesterone stimulating more sebum (oil) on the scalp – wash your hair frequently using mild shampoo.

Skin

Progesterone causes glands in the skin to produce more oil so you may find you break out in spots. Equally, your skin can become dry and itchy. Use a skin care range appropriate for your type of skin and moisturize daily. Avoid perfumed shower gels and bubble bath as these can dry your skin.

Stretch marks

These occur if the elasticity of the skin becomes over-stretched and appear as reddish lines, often on the breasts, stomach and thighs. It helps not to put on too much weight to wear a supportive bra and to moisturize regularly. After the birth, the lines will gradually begin to fade and become less noticeable.

Pigmentation

If you find your skin is more sensitive to the sun than normal, use a moisturizer that contains UVA protection. Some women develop a condition called chloasma, a butterfly-shaped mask of darker skin across the face. This can be reflected with make-up and will disappear after the birth.

Legs and feet

Tired, aching legs and feet are common when you are having a baby . Try to spend some time with your feet up every evening. Fluid retention sometimes causes your feet to get bigger so you may need to buy bigger shoes.

What Dentists Wish Parents Knew Before Bringing Their Kids to the Dentist!

I have been a dentist for over twenty years, treating adults and children of all ages. As a mom, I love taking care of our pediatric patients! When kids have difficulties during a dental visit, oftentimes it is because of something the parents have inadvertently done (or not done). This is so unfortunated, especially since it is so avoidable. Please read my five suggestions on how to prepare your child to have a good dental visit!

Rule # 1: Ask the dental office about how to best prepare your child for what to expect at the dental visit. Kids are very perceptive and will sense your unhealthy vibes if you are fearful, no matter how much you try to hide it. The dental office will have suggestions and maybe even some age appropriate reading material you can use.

Rule # 2: Schedule the visit for a time when your child is not tired. A healthy snack before the appointment is also a good idea. Kids who are hungry and tired will be less cooperative. As a practicing dentist, and also a mom, I have a fridge with healthy drinks and snacks in my waiting room for just such a need!

Rule # 3: If you tend to be squeamish, do not come back into the treatment area. I will come out to the reception area and give periodic updates to parents who choose to remain there. It is no shame to admit that you can not handle watching a medical or dental procedure. Believe it or not, I have had to quickly pull a child out of the dental chair to get his dad to lie down before he passed out!

Rule # 4: Do not talk about bad dental experiences in front of your child! Modern dentistry is a lot different than when you were a kid. Do not pass your fears onto the next generation!

Rule # 5: Never use "the dentist" as a threat. You may find this hard to believe, but I've had parents threaten them children to cooperate or else they would make me give a shot! I've had parents tell children if they do not brush their teeth, that I was going to hurt them. How am I to establish a rapport with your child if he hears comments like that from you?

Lastly, I would tell you to take the time to talk to your own dentist if you have been procrastinating out of fear. Maybe if you see your child have a positive dental experience, it might just provide the push you need to start taking care of your own mouth!

How To Get an STD Test

If you are at all worried about your sexual health it is imperative that you get yourself checked out as soon as possible. If you are experiencing symptoms that worry you, or if you have put yourself into an “at risk” situation by having unprotected sex, then you need to take a deep breath and march yourself off to get the relevant STD tests.

The easiest way for most people to do this is by going to your local GP and getting a referral to the sexual health clinic at your local hospital. However, some people prefer the relative anonymity of attending a walk in clinic without first visiting your personal GP.

A walk in GUM clinic will have a standard set of tests that they recommend. These will generally include Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, HIV and Syphilis. They will then recommend additional tests according to your needs and risks that you have exposed yourself to.

Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and Syphilis are curable diseases treated by courses of specific antibiotics. They are also all best treated early before they can serious health problems. Even exposure to HIV can be treated by post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) which may prevent you becoming HIV positive if you begin treatment within 72 hours of a high risk exposure.

Treatment in the UK can be either on the NHS or at a private clinic. Some tests such as HIV can be undertaken by home screening. HIV home screening was introduced in the UK in 2006 – whereby you send a saliva sample off to a lab to be analysed. Counselling is available if the initial result are not all clear.

Don’t wait and cross your fingers. Decide which option suits you best, whether it be GP, walk in clinic or private clinic, and get yourself tested.

4 Great Recipes to Create a Cherry Desert Using a Dutch Oven

Deserts using a Dutch Oven is a great way to cook. This article will show you 4 easy dutch oven cherry deserts. Each of these recipes use simple to find, easy to pack ingredients.

The first Dutch Oven Cherry Desert requires:

Ingredients:

1 can crushed pineapple

1 can cherry pie filling (she said you can use others)

1 box yellow cake mix (NOT the pudding style)

1 1/2 cups melted butter (I’m sure you could use less if wanted)

Start by pouring your crushed pineapple including the juice into the Dutch Oven (D.O.).

Now add the pie filling. Next pour DRY mix on top of the fruit and filling. Next melt 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) of butter. Pour over the dry cake mixture. Next bake at 350 degrees (about 10 coals on botton and 12-15 coals on top), and it will usually take about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Take out when done and let cool before serving.

Here is a nice Cherry Desert from our European friends. Black Forest Cake in a Dutch Oven

To start with you will need to line a 12″ D.O. with heavy duty aluminum foil, this will reduce the clean up required.

Next using a box of Devil’s Food Cake, prepare the mix as per the instructions on the back of the box. Pour the prepared mix into your lined D.O..

Gently spoon the cherry pie filling ON TOP of the cake mixture. (DO NOT stir the pie filling into the cake mix.) Bake as you would a Cobbler. It should be done in about 30-35 minutes. Test with a toothpick or metal skewer. If the it is clean the cake is done; if the it is gooey with cake mix, let it bake longer.

When done, remove it from the coals and let it cool a few minutes. Server while warm with whipped cream or Cool Whip (if desired).

This desert is a Cobbler.

Open 2 cans of Cherry pie filling, put in a foil lined Dutch Oven, pour on top a white, yellow or spice cake mixture dry. Put on top of cake batter half a cup butter or margarine, cut into pieces & scatter around the dry cake mix. 10 coals on bottom of DO & 15 on top. Cook for about 45 minutes.

The last Dutch Oven Cherry Desert, before I have to raid the refrigerator, is for those on a diet. This is a reduced calorie favorite.

Start with a standard box of cake mix. Dutch Chocolate works very well. Do NOT mix according to the directions on the box. Mix in one can of reduced calorie cherry pie filling and a can of diet lemon-lime soda. Bake at 350 per the directions on the cake box. About 30-45 mins.

I hope you enjoy these recipes. They can be modified to work with almost any fruit mix. Apples and Peaches both are very good.

3) Eat before you shop: It may sound a little funny but if you are hungry, you tend to buy a lot of unnecessary things. You could eat low calorie food before leaving for supplies in order to stop that kind of craving. This is a big must for success.

4) Buy low calorie food: You'll need to make a list of low calorie food and snacks that keep you on program, healthy and satisfied.

5) Pack your lunch for their offices: You can cook at home or use the leftovers for lunch in your office instead of buying from the cafeteria. Homemade enchiladas with bean, rice, small amount of cheese and sauce make a mighty good dinner.

8) Grow your own vegetables: you could grow your own vegetables, for example nice red tomatoes and green salad makings in your backyard. You may also consider freezing your own produce and enjoy nature's bounty for a longer time. Not only will you be saving money and eating healthy weight loss foods, you will also be doing some physical activity while taking care of your garden. 9) Go for whole grain food: Whole grain bread although not as inexpensive as white bread, is a lot healthier choice of and carries fewer calories with more fiber. Recently I discovered help bread in the food co-op, it makes wonderful toast for example.

10) Avoid junk food shopping: Avoid the going to the junk food section which will affect your weight loss program. There are chances of you getting taken away by looking at the mouth watering unhealthy food. Bottom line, just do not go there!

One of the simple things which you can do for yourself is walk to the grocery shop instead of taking your car or if it is far away you can park your car far away from the door.
